From the Eiffel Tower in Paris, to the Palace of Versailles and the battlefields in Normandy, France has quickly become our most requested destination for high school groups. France is perfect for educational travel, so we have collected a list of five unique things for students to try to make your tour unforgettable.
Take your students on a trip to Billy Farm and enjoy a guided tour of the estate, the orchard, and aging cellars. Participate in an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how the farm creates their ciders and calvados. Try your hand at creating your very own delicious drink in a cider-making workshop. Don't forget to taste the fresh apple juice before you leave!
Caen is home to the Palma Festival, where street artists add murals and art to the city walls. This walking tour is organized by the Caen Tourism Office and runs every Friday. Keep your eyes peeled to see graffiti with reference to everything from mythology to video games. This is a unique way to expose your class to the art and culture of this French city.
You can’t go all the way to France without trying cheese. On your way though the Normandy cheese trail, be sure to make a stop at Pont-l’Evêque. The Pont-l’Evêque is a square-shaped, fine textured cow's-milk cheese. When you visit this area, you can watch a 10-minute movie about the origins of their namesake and enjoy a tasting of this creamy cheese.
Grab your sweater and head underground to the troglodyte village of Rochemenier. You will be guided through the museum before exploring this unique town on your own. Visit the underground passages, old troglodyte farms, and see the furniture, tools, and old photos from the village. Don’t miss the chapel!
Feel the sand between your toes as you experience the original pilgrimage to Mont Saint-Michel. As you walk along the beach during low tide, a guide will teach you about the history and ecology of this gorgeous island. Visit this UNESCO site and enjoy a breathtaking view of this historic place.
