We understand that bullying can be difficult to bring up in the classroom, and with Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week starting today, we wanted to give you some resources that will help make this important conversation a little bit easier.
Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week offers teachers, parents and students the opportunity to discuss the dangers of bullying. It began in 2000 when Canadian teacher Bill Belsey realized that bullying was an issue that touched all people. He wants to create a world where it is not a “normal part of growing up,” and believes that education and awareness is the key to fixing this problem.
1 in 3 young students is affected by bullying and cyberbullying. This is described as a form of repeated, persistent and aggressive behaviour directed at an individual or individuals that is intended to cause fear and distress.
